Key Terms

Accident benefits – coverage that helps you with wage loss and medical costs for injuries sustained in a collision. This includes medical and rehabilitation expenses, loss of wages and several other instances. These benefits are paid regardless of fault in the collision.

Collision – optional coverage that pays to repair or replace your vehicle if it is damaged due to a collision with another vehicle, a person or an object.

Comprehensive – optional coverage that pays for any loss or damage to your vehicle other than what is covered through collision coverage (above). This can include vandalism, windshield damage or collisions with animals.

Deductible – the amount an insured must pay before your insurance coverage pays for the remainder of the damages.

Third party liability – covers claims or damages to people or property that someone has been declared legally responsible (liable) for.

Underinsured motorist protection – covers insured for injuries or damages caused by a vehicle operator who doesn't have enough insurance to pay for the damages. Coverage limits vary.
